Bowers trending toward a return, McConkey and Flowers each nursing minor issues

By Nora Sideline · 27d ago

Brock Bowers looks like he could be back sooner than expected. Raiders coach Klint Kubiak called the star tight end day-to-day after his meniscus trim, and the belief is Bowers has a real shot to play against the Chargers. That's a relief for cbbrew, who has had to lean on the idea of Bowers as a game-changer without actually seeing him take a snap yet. Less encouraging for cbbrew: Fernando Mendoza remains stuck behind Kirk Cousins, who played well enough in the opener that there's no QB change coming soon.

Scarpg had a busy Monday. Ladd McConkey exited with what was first called a chest injury and is now being described as a rib issue; coach Jim Harbaugh labeled him day-to-day, with practice participation determining his Week 2 fate. That's worth watching closely given McConkey's role as a weekly starter. Scarpg also got a better-than-feared update on Sam Darnold, whose soft-tissue issue is considered short-term and not structural — Drew Lock starts in the meantime. And Jalen Coker is in a walking boot after an ankle tweak, though it's being treated as precautionary and he's expected to play next week.

Zay Flowers left Sunday's win early with a hamstring issue, but both the Ravens and multiple reports peg it as minor. ssbradley40 shouldn't panic — Flowers has a real chance to play Week 2.

Elsewhere: Ja'Kobi Lane (zmoneyballers) fractured his wrist and will miss time, a bench-level loss. Alec Pierce (PatBerry) is fine after a wrist scare. Jordan Mason (vaniano) is being evaluated for thumb soreness. Kyler Murray (CapitanKampana) is in concussion protocol, with Carson Wentz next in line. Chris Bell (PatBerry) and Brian Thomas (jgianares) are managing minor bumps but expected to play. TreVeyon Henderson (DamnBrit) practiced and looks on track for his season debut.
