Malik Nabers sat out again for vaniano, this time against the Jets, as he continues working back from last year's torn ACL. He's still on track for Week 1 against the Cowboys, but for an elite WR, every skipped game is a small hold-your-breath moment. Vaniano's other headache is Ashton Jeanty, whose ankle is being monitored by Raiders coach Klint Kubiak. The team says it's counting on him for Week 1 against the Dolphins, which is the best news an elite RB owner can get without an actual practice report to point to.
James Cook didn't play in Buffalo's exhibition finale, but that's fully expected roster management for cplabarge, not a red flag. Cook remains the lead back heading into Week 1 against the Texans. Cplabarge's other concern is more real: Emeka Egbuka is still nursing a toe injury and didn't travel to suit up in Jacksonville, leaving his Week 1 status against the Bengals unresolved for a weekly WR starter.
The Chargers dominate the notes column. Ladd McConkey (Scarpg) and Omarion Hampton (Trotter0) both played minimal preseason snaps in a get-everyone-healthy finale, no cause for alarm given their clear starting roles. Justin Herbert (ssbradley40) flashed briefly, tossing a touchdown to Quentin Johnston (Cmoney7), who looked fully recovered from his own lower-body issue. Oronde Gadsden (CapitanKampana) continues to see a diminished role behind Charlie Kolar and David Njoku, a real concern for his bench value.
Elsewhere: Harold Fannin (cplabarge) sat as Cleveland rested starters, no real news for the presumptive TE1. Brock Bowers (cbbrew) logged one catch in his only preseason action, unremarkable. Geno Smith (Trotter0) will make his first Jets start since 2016 after a clean preseason. Wan'Dale Robinson (DamnBrit) avoided a concussion scare and looks fine for Week 1. Washington's backfield remains banged up, with Rachaad White (Trotter0) and Jacory Croskey-Merritt (Scarpg) both sidelined, low-stakes bench notes for now.
