Sam loads up on stars; zmoneyballers stockpiles four 2026 picks

Sam and Zack made a deal Sunday that draws a clean line between now and later. Sam gets Christian McCaffrey, an elite RB, plus Zay Flowers, a weekly WR starter, along with Dallas Goedert, a bench TE with standalone value, and depth piece Ryan Flournoy. Zack gets DK Metcalf, a bench WR, Braelon Allen, a depth piece, and a pile of draft capital: a 2026 first, two 2026 seconds, and a 2026 third.

This is Zack living out his own stated plan. He announced a full rebuild for 2026 — "everyone available" — and flipping McCaffrey, the same player he bought into not long ago, for four future picks is about as literal as a rebuild gets. The return isn't nothing: Metcalf still has standalone value, and four picks is real draft equity.

But the headline names go to Sam, who by his own account is a terrible GM and yet somehow keeps landing rosters like this. McCaffrey and Flowers are two starters most managers would build around, not throw in. For a guy who spends half his press conferences begging for a good-faith QB, this is Sam quietly assembling one of the stronger skill-position cores in the league. The self-deprecation remains a bit. The roster does not.
